Hoekstra fighting to get fit
The former Ajax and Groningen player, who joined The Potters in July 2001, has been sidelined with a persistent ankle problem since December.
The 29-year-old made only nine appearances for the Division One newcomers last season and broke down again just before the start of the new campaign.
On the injury problems to Hoektra, Stoke's director of football John Rudge told The Sentinel: "We are all frustrated, no-one more than Peter himself, and we are willing to try almost anything to get to the bottom of his problems.
"He brought two physios over from Holland at his own expense last week because they have worked with him in the past and might be able to help in some way.
"One stayed for a few days and the other is due to go back at the end of the week.
"We are just hoping they can hit on something and help push him on from here.
"You have to go back a long way to remember a Stoke player with the kind of skill Peter has, and this is why everyone is so frustrated by his absence.
"But it's only right to let people know the efforts he's making himself to get fit, because they can sometimes question just how badly he wants to play."
