Emerton wants Magpies switch

FEYENOORD'S Brett Emerton has admitted that he wants to move on, after Newcastle United lodged a bid for his services earlier this week.

Planetfootball.com revealed on Friday that Newcastle had begun negotiations with Feyenoord over the Australian international.

Talks have been continuing over the weekend and Emerton has admitted that the time is right to leave the Dutch giants.

"I have enjoyed my stay at Feyenoord but the time is right to move," said Emerton.

"As a youngster I always watched the Premier League on the television and dreamed of playing in England one day."

The player's agent Simon Konstantinidis confirmed that the player would be more than happy to move to Tyneside, if a deal is done.

"Brett would be flattered to play for Newcastle, should the deal be struck," he said.

A bid of £8 million has been made by The Magpies, which Feyenoord have accepted, but it is thought that the two clubs are struggling to agree on how the transfer should be paid.

This, though, seems a formality and Emerton should sign before next week's transfer deadline.

Reports on Sunday have claimd that Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson moved for Emerton after failing for a new bid for Chelsea's Boudewijn Zenden.

Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Fenerbahce midfielder Milan Rapaijc, along with North East rivals Sunderland - it is claimed that Robson and counterpart Peter Reid will battle it out for the Croatian ace.
