Cesar delighted by call-up

DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA defender Cesar has revealed his delight at being named in the Spanish squad for the Euro 2004 qualifier against Greece next week.

The 25-year-old was one of five changes for the party named by new Spanish coach Inaki Saez that drew 1-1 with Hungary last week.

"I have played under Inaki in the lower levels for Spain and we know each other well," explained Cesar.

"I am obviously very happy that he has remembered me and believe that this has opened up a completely new area for me.

"Being called up for your country is the ultimate compliment in football and fills you full of confidence and desire to do even better."

Ruben Baraja, Coque Contreras, Enrique Romero and Cesar come in for Sergio, Aranzabal, Ricardo and Juanito while Ivan Helguera is recalled after injury.
