Savio looks forward to Bordeaux challenge
Savio joins Les Girondins on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent contract, although the Samba ace has not ruled out returning to the Spanish capital.
"It was settled very quickly, because both parties have agreed the loan idea with an option to buy," said Savio.
"I come into a great French team and I hope to play again. At Madrid people didn't give me the opportunities needed by a professional. It was time for me to leave and I do it with my head held high.
"Even if I played rarely I think over the five years at Real I helped the team to win titles.
"I still have friends at Madrid. I have left the door open for a possible return."
Former Bordeaux favourite and Real Madrid team-mate Zinedine Zidane lauded the attributes of the Brazilian winger.
"Savio is the best reinforcement that Bordeaux could get. Les Girondins needed a player of such quality," Zizou told L'Equipe.
"They already have a great team with classy players like (Christophe) Dugarry and Pauleta, but with Savio they can be champions.
"Savio has the qualities to assert himself in any league, so far me, France will suit him well. I told him what is happening there, as I played four seasons at Bordeaux."
