Congo agrees to Levante loan

EDWIN CONGO will play for Levante next season on loan, with the Real Madrid forward agreeing to a move to the Valencian side.

Levante had hoped to get former Fiorentina star Predrag Mijatovic but talks broke down with the two parties around $100,000 apart.

Congo saw a chance to join Turkish side Samsunspor disappear and it was expected that he would spend next season on the sidelines, only for Levante to give him a chance to play.

The Segunda Liga side have an option to buy Congo at around ‚é¼600,000 at the end of the season with the 26-year-old having failed to make much of a mark on the Real first team.

"I don't want to return to live another year like the past one, without playing," said Congo.

He added: "I loved this club (Levante) and this will be a very valid option for me."

Congo arrived in the Spanish capital in 1999 from Once Caldas and has a contract with Real until June 2004 but has spent most of his time on loan to the likes of Valladolid, Vitoria Guimaraes and Toulouse.
