Latics bid for McPhee

WIGAN ATHLETIC are closing in on Port Vale's Steve McPhee, and have handed a trial to Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Ryan Robinson.

Scotland Under-21 international McPhee has apparently been the subject of a considerable bid from Wigan, and Vale manager Brian Horton is expected to make a decision before the weekend.

There are suggestions that Lee Ashcroft could be moving to Port Vale as part of the deal, but Valiants fans will be disappointed to lose McPhee after snapping him up on a free transfer from Coventry last year.

Meanwhile, young Rovers keeper Robinson has joined Wigan for a trial spell.

The 19-year-old will be hoping to impress and win himself the chance of some first team football.
