Diouf baffled by Senegal hate campaign
The 21-year-old hit-man came in for some criticism when he decided not to appear for his country in an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho last week.
The former Lens player opted out of the Senegal squad when he decided to spend time with his seriously ill stepfather.
However, Diouf's decision to spend time with a family member has made him the target of angry Senegal fans, who pelted him with water-bombs and issued death threats while he was in the country's capital Dakar.
The African has a hard time understanding why he can be the subject of so much abuse, claiming he cleared his omission from the team with all the necessary officials.
Diouf told News of the World: "I don't know why they are doing this. I've got nothing to feel guilty about.
"I spoke to everyone who needed to know I wouldn't be playing.
"I came to Dakar to be by the side of my stepfather, who is seriously ill.
"He has a done a lot for me and I wanted to help him get better."
Contrary to reports, the World Cup star insisted that he did not tell the Senegalese Football Federation that he wanted former boss Bruno Metsu re-instated once his ten-month contract with United Arab Emirates' club Al-Ain ended.
Diouf added: "I'd be the happiest of men if Metsu came back, but I don't play for him or any other coach - I play for Senegal."
Diouf and his Reds team-mates will be busy this week preparing for their opening Champions League clash in Spain against La Liga title-holders Valencia on Tuesday.
