Kuyt set for January switch

EXCLUSIVE
DUTCH Under-21 star Dirk Kuyt is set to leave FC Utrecht in January, planetfootball.com can reveal.

The Utrecht starlet is one of Holland's brightest talents and his agent Piet Buter has revealed talks have begun with one of De Eredivisie's 'big three'.

Buter would not reveal whether it was Ajax, PSV Eindhoven or Feyenoord, but he did admit that one has come in for Kuyt.

"One of Holland's top clubs approached me last week about a move in January," Buter said.

"As everyone knows there is a limit on how much Utrecht can ask for Dirk and at just 22 he would be a great buy."

Despite his tender age Kuyt is now in his fifth full season at Galgenwaard and he has started the new campaign in great fashion with three goals in four games.

It remains to be seen which of Dutch clubs has made a move for Kuyt, although all three could have an excuse for making a bid.

The prime candidates appear to be Feyenoord, who currently have Pierre van Hooijdonk leading their line, but do not have an abundance of cover.

Argentine Mariano Bombardo was recentley lured out of retirement to help bolster Bert van Marwijk's options.

Ajax do need Kuyt at present, but the recent spat with Egyptian star Mido has raised doubts over whether he will stay at The Amsterdam ArenA beyond January and if not, the Utrecht man could be an ideal replacment.

PSV are very much in the same boat as Ajax and do not currently need another striker, but if their star Mateja Kezman was lured away from the Philips Stadion, then they too could be considered as potential suitors for Kuyt.

A possible move to England, muted last summer after number of good displays against David Platt's Under 21 outfit, does not look like materialising.

However, Buter confirmed that English clubs have continued to monitor his situation.

"I was told there was a lot of scouts watching him against Southampton in pre-season, when he did very well," he said. Buter admitted that a move to England is still something his charge would consider, but that is not an option until an offer is made.

"We do not really talk about a move to England as there are no offers, if something came in, then we would chat about it, but at the moment there is nothing on the table," he said.

"We consider all offers very seriously, but only when they are that - firm offers."
