Pierre is free kick king

PIERRE VAN HOOIJDONK is laying claim to being the best free kick taker in the world.

Goalkeepers across the whole world fear him as it does not seem to matter what position they take, the Feyenoord forward is unstoppable.

The 32-year-old striker is the master of the free kick, scoring one, on average, every three matches he plays.

In 52 matches he has played for Feyenoord in De Eredivisie, the Dutch Cup and European matches, he has scored 18 times from free kicks.

The tall Dutchman netted the crucial equaliser against Juventus in the Champions League in midweek.

By smashing the ball past Gianluigi Buffon, a the third attempt, van Hooijdonk carried on his good form in Europe after netting eight goals in nine Uefa Cup appearances last term.

He netted with free kicks against Freiburg, Rangers (twice) and in the final against Borussia Dortmund.

Last season, he bagged 10 free kick goals in De Eredivisie, and already has two this time around.

Van Hooijdonk stays on the training pitch to practice his free kicks, and the extra work is clearly paying dividends.
