Heskey happy with left role

EMILE HESKEY has revealed that he will continue to play wide on the left for Liverpool despite the move likely hindering the striker's chances of playing for England.

The former Leicester City star has been used out wide in recent Premiership matches for The Reds, partly in order to accommodate in-form Milan Baros into Gerard Houllier's starting line-up.

However, despite the threat that the 24-year-old might lose his international striking place, the hit-man is happy to play wherever the club needs him.

"Of course England is a concern," said Heskey. "I want to be pulling on that shirt.

"The manager spoke to me before last week's Bolton game and said he needed me to do a job - and I'm happy to do it.

"Mr Eriksson knows what I'm capable of doing - but as long as Gerard Houllier wants to do a job, I will.

"Alan Smith is obviously a threat to me - but he has been playing on the right wing for Leeds."

Heskey has often been criticised during his Anfield career, and also The Three Lions, for not scoring enough goals, however the strong forward to eager to increase his strike ratio.

"When my chance comes I've got to try and take it," added Heskey. "I know there is always going to be pressure on me - especially at a big club like Liverpool."
