Viana admits Italian dream

NEWCASTLE UNITED starlet Hugo Viana has revealed he could have joined Juventus, and admits it would be a dream to play in Italy.

The Portuguese midfielder was snapped up by Magpies boss Bobby Robson from under the noses of several top continental clubs during the close season, and the former Sporting Lisbon man has already become a favourite of the passionate St James' Park crowd.

However, the 19-year-old has not been a regular in the side as he is being eased into things gently by Robson.

And Viana admits to feeling a tinge of regret when the Tynesiders tackled Juventus at the impressive Stadio Delle Alpi on Tuesday evening, as he only entered the fray as a substitute for Nolberto Solano.

"Juventus, I could be yours," Viana told Italian reporters.

"I had the opportunity to come to Turin two years ago, but it all vanished.

"At Newcastle, I do not find a place.

"I know that is football but I want to play.

"Italy would be a dream even though they treat me well in England."

Unfortunately for Robson, still reeling at his team's third consecutive defeat in the Champions League, these are the sort of comments that are likely to find their way into the English tabloids and, having had to deal with disparaging quotes from Laurent Robert last week, this could cause more frustration for the former England boss.
