Vikings slay Chelsea
It was the third successive time that Chelsea have gone out in the first round of the competition as Viking joined St Gallen and Hapoel Tel Aviv as slayers of The Blues.
Morten Berre was eventually credited with the opening goal in the ninth minute, after a mad scramble in the box, the referee adjudged the ball had crossed the line.
A superb backheel set up Peter Kopteff for the second and although William Gallas made a brilliant tackle, the ball sat up nicely and the Viking star rocketed his shot into the top corner.
Chelsea pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time, as Gianfranco Zola played the ball through and although Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink failed to control it, Frank Lampard gambled and it paid off as it came through to him and he finished well.
Just before the hour Viking restored their two goal advantage as former Manchester United reserve Erik Nevland showed his predatory instincts to head past Carlo Cudicini after Chelsea failed to clear a corner.
The visitors fought back and John Terry threw himself at a cross and his downward header flew in just under the bar.
Yet the night belonged to Nevland and four minutes from time he got on the end of a low cross from the left and finished superbly into the bottom corner to send the home faithful wild.
