Christanval's Barca frustration
The 24-year-old does not seem to fit in with Louis van Gaal's new system and Camp Nou, and has had few chances with the Spanish giants this season.
Reports have already said that Barca could sell him or loan him out during the winter, and he has said that he is becoming increasingly frustrated.
"Leeds and Newcastle were named in the press as clubs interested in me," said Christanval. "There are always contacts.
"For the moment, I don't pay any attention to them. But in football, everything can go quickly.
"My present situation is difficult. I accept it, because I haven't got a choice. But I can't really see me staying a whole season like that. It should be frustrating."
The 24-year-old knew that with his poor showing against Cyprus, along with his lack of playing time at Barca, meant that he would be out of the French squad for the upcoming Euro 2004 qualifiers.
"My non call-up in French team wasn't a surprise. Since my last match against Cyprus, I talked to Santini three or four times on the phone, and he was very clear.
"Even if the doors are not definitely closed, I know that as I don't play here, they are closed automatically. He encouraged me to hold on. But it is hard mentally.
"The new Barca system, with three defenders rather than four, doesn't favour me.
"And van Gaal told us clearly he will play with the same eleven players all the season, if he can."
