Mendieta affected by Lazio problems

Medieta is currently on loan at Barcelona from Lazio, but there is talk of an enforced return to Valencia - if Fifa arbitrators rule the transfer void.

Lazio's financial problems are well documented, with qualification under the monetary rules of Serie A only achieved very late on the deadline day.

However, unpaid fees in the Mendieta deal have led to Fifa administrators and the Court of Justice being called in to come up with a solution.

Spanish international Mendieta has admitted that the situation is unsettling, but is hopeful of remaining at Barcelona.

"I am trying to stay detached from this, but many people are being affected," said Mendieta.

"The prospect of a return to Valencia is a long way off.

"I believe there are many things that must be talked over.

"I would like to remain at Barcelona for a few years."
