Gaspart reveals Barca turned down Ronaldo
The Barcelona president also hinted that the club could not afford the striker's demands.
"We spoke over the summer when Ronaldo called me," Gaspart explained.
"He told me that he wanted to move from Inter and we spoke about the possibility, but in the end it was not my decision.
"I cannot say that I was in agreement with the decision to not sign him, but others decided that it could not done.
"Everyone at the club spoke about it and thought that we should not proceed because of a number of circumstances, none of which were related to his fitness."
Gaspart then explained that he wanted the best for Ronaldo, but hoped that he does not enjoy too much success with Real Madrid.
"He is a great player and a great person and I wish him every success on a personal level, but not on a sporting level," Gaspart continued.
The Barca chief went on to explain that he could never be friends with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez because of the rivalry that exists between the two Spanish giants.
"It is very difficult to have friends in another club, especially such a great rival," he said.
"With Florentino being president of our great rivals there will always be differences between us.
"I cannot wish him all the best, since his success will inevitably be my failure as both clubs are aiming to win the league and the Champions League.
"But in his business life and his personal life I wish him well."
