Cafu claims United contact

ROMA'S Brazilian full back Cafu claims Manchester United are determined to entice him to The Premiership next summer.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long-term admirer of the Samba star and the 32-year-old has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford.

But Cafu has previously resisted all overtures from English clubs to concentrate on life in Serie A.

The right back, though, is contemplating terminating his Roma career when his contract expires next June.

He has revealed he will make a firm decision on his future in the New Year and hinted a switch to United is in the pipeline.

"United have been chasing me hard for a long time and that also includes recent contact," claimed Cafu.

"They have made it clear that they are waiting for me to sign in the summer when I am a free agent.

"I've turned down many lucrative offers from England in the past. This is different.

"The interest of a club with such a terrific ambition and with such a prestigious history makes me happy.

"The next contract I sign will probably be my last. I simply cannot afford to make any mistakes, so I will think very carefully.

"Once I know what Roma are offering, if anything, then I will evaluate all the advantages and disadvantages of a move to United.

"But I will not allow Roma to do to me what they did to my friends Zago and Aldair.

"They ended up unclear about whether they were staying or going. That won't happen to me.

"By New Year I will decide whether I am going to England or staying in Rome.

"Roma cannot forget that next June I will be free to do what I like," warned Cafu to the News of the World.
