Campbell boost for England

ENGLAND have been handed a major fitness boost ahead of their Euro 2004 qualifier against Macedonia with Sol Campbell coming through a full training session on his return to the squad.

The Arsenal defender missed Saturday's opening qualifying game in Slovakia due to a bout of gastro-enteritis.

He joined up with the rest of the squad as they arrived in Southampton for the Macedonia game.

Campbell trained alongside those players who did not start the 2-1 win in Slovakia, with Kieron Dyer also coming through the session despite a slight back strain.

It means that England have almost a full strength squad to choose from with only Rio Ferdinand missing with a knee problem.

Campbell is expected to return to the side on Wednesday night at St Mary's alongside Gareth Southgate in the centre of defence with Jonathan Woodgate set to miss out.

Meanwhile, England coach Sven Goran Eriksson has admitted he is feeling the pressure after details of his affair with television personality Ulrika Jonsson were revealed in his autobiography.

The Swede when asked whether it had been the most difficult week of his life revealed it had not been on the football side of things and that he was coping with it.

"Football-wise, I would say no but otherwise, I could have lived without it.

"Football-wise, I've had many tough weeks during my 20 years in the game, as well as many good weeks.

"But my private life has never been so exposed like it is at this moment and has been so for months.

"As long as I cope with the pressure, it's okay. I could wake up one morning and say enough is enough, but I am coping with it - and winning helps.

"I am focused on the work I'm doing. I want to win football games and I want to reach Portugal 2004.

"It's very important for me to divide my private life from my public life. One thing is one thing and the other thing is the other thing.

"Of course, winning football games is one of the best things in the world, especially when England play away in their first qualifying game."
