Houllier confirms Gerrard omission

GERARD HOULLIER has confirmed that midfield kingpin Steven Gerrard will not face Leeds United on Saturday afternoon following his hip injury sustained for England against Macedonia.

The Liverpool ace, 22, was carried off with the problem and Houllier revealed the midfielder was definitely out for the Elland Road tussle, while Emile Heskey and Sami Hyypia are doubtful.

"We are paying a heavy price for our service to the national sides," Houllier told the club website.

"Steve (Gerrard) is definitely out of the Leeds game. I don't know if he will make the Moscow trip.

"He suffered a blow to the muscle, not a tear or a strain, which is good news.

"He has a clot on the hip and that restricts his movement. It will take a time to disperse."

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Monaco starlet Patrice Evra.

The Senegalese midfielder, 21, could come as part of an exchange deal for French flop Bernard Diomede.
