Rodgers worry over court case

SHREWSBURY TOWN ace Luke Rodgers could find himself in serious trouble after being accused of causing a teenage girl horrific facial injuries.

The highly-rated striker is accused of attacking the girl with a firework and now faces a crown court trial for the offence.

The 20-year-old appeared before Solihull magistrates on Thursday, charged with maliciously burning, maiming, disfiguring and disabling a 16-year-old girl with an explosion of gunpowder at Castle Bromwich on October 10.

The charge casts a doubt over Rodgers' participation with The Shrews this season as if found guilty he could face a prison sentence.

Any absence would be a major blow for the club as he was their top scorer last season and had attracted the interest of a number of teams including Southampton.

Shrewsbury have refused to comment on the case and it is not known whether or not he will play against Kidderminster this weekend.
