Byrne completes Carlisle move
The Dublin-born left-back has signed a two-year deal with the Brunton Park club and he may make his debut when The Cumbrians host Swansea City on Saturday.
The 22-year-old originally joined The Dons for £100,000 from League of Ireland club St Patrick's Athletic in August 2000.
The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international started his career at Stockport County before returning to Dublin with St Patrick's.
While at Wimbledon, he spent time on loan at Cambridge United last season as he eventually fell out of favour with the South London club.
Byrne had been training with Roddy Collins's side recently but was unable to sign with the club until now.
Meanwhile, Carlisle chairman John Courtenay released a statement on the club's official website stating that an offer of shares has been made to the Carlisle & Cumbria United Independent Supporters Trust.
The offer is said to guarantee the supporters an immediate 20 percent shareholding and a permanent seat on the Division Three club's board for a supporters' representative.
The statement adds that once conditions for the transfer of the 20 percent shares has been made to the Supporters Trust, a maximum of up to 49 percent shares will be made available to them in the future.
The supporters will also receive first option on sufficient shares should Courtenay decide to step down or retire from his post with The Cumbrians.
