Carew: Fulham will be sorry

VALENCIAN forward John Carew has warned Fulham that they will be sorry they did not proceed with their bid for him, with The Cottagers instead turning to Argentinian striker Facundo Sava.

Carew has begun the season in spectacular fashion with four goals and is now feeling more settled at Mestalla.

Coach Rafael Benitez used a forward rotation involving six strikers last season, his first managing in the top flight and it paid off handsomely as Valencia won La Liga title.

However, speaking about the Fulham deal, Carew said: "I'm pleased I have not missed out on the league successes of Valencia.

"The English team knows that they were mistaken and they will be very sorry not to have contracted me, because I am worthy of playing in The Premiership.

"I'm having a good run of form, something that is not normal in my case at the beginning of the season," admitted Carew.

He added: "Last year I was a little loose, but Valencia is a great team and I know what I'm doing.  I am in good health (having lost weight) and things are better than last season.

"In the three years I've been in Valencia I have matured a lot.  I have learned many things and every day I continue learning, but that is good as I'm still young.

"Now the strikers are demonstrating that we can score goals too and do well.  Form comes and goes and we are called upon to get the good results and be the champions of Spain again.

"We need to maintain this level for the rest of the year.  We will try for everything but our great objective is the Champions League."
