Tofting appeals over sentence

AS expected Bolton midfielder Stig Tofting will appeal against his four-month jail sentence imposed earlier this month for assault on a restaurant manager in Copenhagen.

The 33-year-old midfielder was on a night out with the Danish national squad back in June after the World Cup when he lost the plot and attacked two members of staff.

A Copenhagen court found Tofting guilty and sentenced him to 16 weeks in prison, allowing two weeks for any appeal.

'The Lawnmower', a nickname Tofting has earned through his tough tackling on the pitch, must now play a waiting game along with Bolton.

An official statement from Bolton read: "Bolton Wanderers Football Club is aware that Stig Tofting has appealed against his four-month jail sentence.

"The club is assessing its options and will not be hurried into making a decision."
