Pool deny Diouf spitting incident

PREMIERSHIP leaders Liverpool have denied allegations that Senegalese international striker El Hadji Diouf spat at West Ham's travelling supporters in the club's 2-0 win at Anfield.

Hammers fans are believed to have informed Merseyside Police about Diouf, who was an unused substitute in the game, after the clash.

However, Liverpool club spokesman Ian Cotton has hit back at the allegations saying: "We absolutely, categorically deny allegations that El Hadji Diouf spat at or spat in the direction of West Ham fans.

"These allegations were brought to our attention by the police after the game and we have since spoken the player. It is absolutely untrue.

"After the game we spoke to our stewards who were in the area, and they have totally refuted the claims made by the West Ham fans."
