Bayern pair in training ground bust-up

BAYERN MUNICH defensive duo Niko Kovac and Bixente Lizarazu were involved in a training ground scuffle on Thursday as the tension within the club starts to build.

The German titans suffered an early exit from the Champions League and have struggled of late in the Bundesliga, prompting the media to suggest there is a lack of harmony in the camp.

In training Lizarazu, who had a similar fracas with the great Lothar Matthaus three seasons ago, and Kovac committed several fouls on one another before going for each other's throats in front of their shocked team-mates.

Assistant coach Michael Henke separated the pair who later talked the incident over with Ottmar Hitzfeld, who is believed to have issued Lizarazu with a  ‚é¼10,000 fine.

"The fight was started by Lizarazu," said Hitzfeld. "So he will be handed an appropriate fine."

Hitzfeld played down the bust-up and claimed it showed the will-to-win of his players, stating: "Before the Dortmund game there is real fire (in their bellies). That pleases me."

Meanwhile, Michael Ballack is confident ahead of the weekend clash with arch rivals Borussia Dortmund, adding: "We will play for the coach against Dortmund.

"I am convinced that we will win on Saturday."
