King tips Davis for bright future

ANDY KING may be sorry to lose loanee Jimmy Davis but the Swindon Town manager has tipped the Manchester United youngster to make a Premiership appearance before the season is out.

The 20-year-old shone during his temporary stint at The County Ground, and King was keen to extend the arrangement until the end of the campaign.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson has recalled the forward, and will look to him to use the extra experience he has gained to help push for a place in the first team squad on a regular basis.

"Jimmy will be a great loss to this football club," admitted King.

"I think you will see him play for United before the end of the campaign.

"That's how good I think the kid is.

"He may have gone back to United but I hope a part of Jimmy remains with this club.

"His ability, desire, commitment and hard work have been both first class and an inspiration."

Davis has been delighted with the way the loan switch worked out, after earlier having reservations about joining Town.

"To be honest, I wanted to go out on loan to a First Division club," he told thisiswiltshire. "But I have no complaints at all.

"I hadn't had the chance of playing first team football but my time here has reassured me that I can make it in the game.

"Obviously, I want first team football. If I go back and find that I'm not in the picture, then I'm sure I'll be into the gaffer's office and looking to get out on loan again.

"I want to make a name for myself, hopefully at Manchester United but, if I haven't made an impression in a year or so, then obviously I will have to think about my options."

United's squad is crying out for fresh impetus from some of their younger players but very few have shown they are capable of making the grade.

Davis will now be asked to make the same sort of impact that Kieron Richardson has made over the past few weeks at Old Trafford.
