Manchester City 0 Charlton 1

CHARLTON ended Manchester City's good run of form with a well-deserved 1-0 success at Maine Road.

South African striker Shaun Bartlett grabbed the only goal of the game 11 minutes from time to give Charlton their first away win in four while inflict City's first defeat in four.

City came into the game on a high after last week's derby win over United, but they failed to breakdown a resolute Charlton defence.

Neither side were at their best in a poor first half, but Charlton dominated the second half.

Gary Rowett and Bartlett wasted good chances with free headers while Jonatan Johansson forced Peter Schmeichel into a good save.

The visitors got the goal their play merited when Johansson crossed for Bartlett to slide home at the backpost.

The goal stung City into action and Kevin Horlock and Nicolas Anelka went close, but Charlton hung on for all three points to climb out of the bottom four
