U's take Hodges on trial

COLCHESTER UNITED have handed a trial to Rochdale midfielder Lee Hodges.

The 24-year-old has failed to settle at Spotland after joining in the summer from Scunthorpe and Colchester boss Steve Whitton has invited him to train with his side.

Whitton is a big fan of the former West Ham trainee and will look at him in training before deciding whether or not to pursue his interest in him.

"I wanted to try and get some fresh faces in again, really," Whitton told the club's official website. "I've known Lee for quite a while and he's played against us a few times with his different clubs.

"He's always been a very good footballer and we tried to get him a few years ago when Steve Wignall was in charge.

"He moved to Rochdale in the summer, but hasn't really settled up there and hasn't been in the side.

"We've got him in to take a look at him in training and we'll go from there if both parties get on."
