Two nations want Camoranesi

JUVENTUS midfielder Mauro Camoranesi is at the centre of an international tug-of-war.

The Argentine-born ace is wanted by both his homeland and his adopted nation, Italy.

Camoranesi is on the verge of gaining Italian citizenship and Azzurri coach Giovanni Trapattoni has contemplated calling the 26-year-old into his squad.

Trapattoni admits he has run the rule over Camoranesi but has yet to discuss the situation with the player.

"We saw his performances and he has many possibilities to be called up like many other players but we have never spoken with him," said Trapattoni.

Camoranesi has already hinted he would accept a call-up to the Italian squad after admitting he had been expecting contact with Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa.

But Bielsa is also mulling over including Camoranesi in his plans to ensure he will not be available for the Azzurri.

Bielsa told daily newspaper 'Ole': "If Camoranesi only plays one match in Argentina's jersey, the Italian federation will no longer have the possibility to think about possible naturalisation with the aim to line-up him with the Azzurri."
