Redondo close to Milan debut - again

FERNANDO REDONDO has insisted that he is close to a return, and is keen to make his debut for Milan - 29 months after his £11.1 million move to the club from Real Madrid.

Redondo moved after playing in the Champions League triumph for Real in 2000, but his career since has been a catastrophic tale of long-term injury and premature optimism.

However, the forgotten man of Milan has insisted that he is close - again - to pulling on the famous Rossoneri shirt.

"My knee feels better and I have not had any problems with it," said Redondo.

"Now I will start the real preparation.

"I'm not going to set a definite date for a return - that is not important right now.

"But I can say that I will definitely be back.

"I have a massive will to get back on the pitch - and a huge desire to be called up."
