Payton to undergo surgery

BURNLEY veteran Andy Payton has been told he faces surgery to repair a long-term hernia problem.

The 35-year-old striker will go under the knife later this week, and will be unavailable for around six weeks.

The Padiham predator has been something of a peripheral figure at Turf Moor over the past two seasons, but remains a firm favourite with the club's supporters.

It will be the second time that Payton has had surgery on a hernia - and he will be well aware of the recovery process.

Payton is still looking to play 200 times for Burnley - but still has some way to go - and will be hoping that he can get back into contention when he is fully fit.
