Weir - No regrets over Scotland snub

EVERTON defender David Weir has ruled out a return to the Scotland set-up.

The former Hearts ace withdrew himself from selection for his country in October after being publicly criticised, along with team-mate Christian Dailly, by coach Berti Vogts following the draw with The Faroe Islands.

Weir, who has since lost his place in the Everton starting line-up recently to Alan Stubbs, was playing for Everton's reserves last week while the Scots were in Portugal last week.

The 32-year-old insists he has no regrets over his decision and that he will stand by it.

"I could have been playing against Portugal instead of playing for Everton reserves but I can't look at it like that," said Weir.

"I made the right decision for the right reasons and I still stand by that. For me to change my mind it would make light of my initial decision, which, for me, was a massive one."

Weir has failed to win his place back in the side after being suspended for his sending-off against Manchester United.

Stubbs stepped into his place during his suspension helping Everton to win their last six games and Weir has no complaints about being left on the sidelines.

"It's the longest unenforced break I've ever had from first- team football and, frustrating as it is, I can't really have any complaints," said Weir. "The team has been playing really well and not giving away goals."
