Lazio settle Mendieta payment

LAZIO have reached an agreement with Valencia of the unpaid ‚é¼12 million the club owed the Spanish outfit for the transfer of Gaizka Mendieta.

Despite the transfer going through over a season ago the financially-trouble Stadio Olimpico side still had not paid the final installment of the fee for the Spanish international, however the Serie A have finally agreed to settle the deal.

The Estadio Mestalla outfit had been preparing legal action aginast the Roman outfit, but it now appears the threat of the club being taken to court has been averted.

Mendieta, who is currently on a year's loan deal with Barcelona, recently admitted that the financial trouble around Lazio was affecting his form.

With Lazio keen to recoup much of the vast £28 million outlaid on the midfielder, the Italian outfit are desperate for the 28-year-old to find his form quickly in order for struggling Barca to want make the star's move a permanent one.
