Wijnhard injury shocker

OLDHAM ATHLETIC striker Clyde Wijnhard faces up to 18 months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The Dutchman has endured a torrid time with injuries in recent seasons and this latest bombshell could raise serious question marks over his career.

Latics boss Iain Dowie confirmed the news after his side's clash against Wigan on Saturday following Wijnhard's visit to the specialist earlier in the week.

Back in October, Wijnhard underwent an operation on his knee but the specialist has now discovered a defect which will lead to a prolonged absence for the 29-year-old.

Wijnhard requires further surgery which will rule him out for a minimum of seven months and his rehabilitation period has been forecast at 12 months.

The former Leeds and Huddersfield marksman had proved a massive hit at Boundary Park, scoring 11 goals in 17 appearances since joining in August.

But with his Latics contract expiring next May, Wijnhard will face a momentous battle to return to the professional ranks when he is finally recovered from the injury.
