Thorstvedt unhappy at Espen release
The former Tottenham and Norwegian international shot-stopper found himself out in the cold this season at Vicarage Road and decided it was best to move on.
Although the 25-year-old is considering his future options, it is being widely tipped that the American-born keeper may hang up his boots.
"That would be a shame," said Thorstvedt on Baardsen's possible retirement to VG. "A pity both for Espen and Norway.
"He has four caps for us and it's not that long ago since he was in the frame on the international scene.
"I mean, he's got ten years left as a player. Espen has been unlucky during his time in England, especially since he went from Tottenham to Watford.
"Watford, like most of the other First Division clubs, have struggled financially, but clearly they have got enough money to release Espen from his contract.
"Whether it turns out to be good for Espen or not will depend on whether he finds a new club.
"However, he has a good education, so it is not a crisis. He has got several options and can easily change his career."
