Vignal happy to wait for chance

The French Under-21 international has been restricted to starts in the Worthington Cup this season and one brief substitute appearance in the Champions League.

Vignal burst onto the scene in the 2001 Treble winning season, but saw last term blighted by injury after breaking his foot against Grimsby last October.

Jamie Carragher, John Arne Riise and Djimi Traore are ahead of him in the pecking order for a place at left back.

The former Montpellier ace is not getting too frustrated at being left on the sidelines as he knows he still has time on his side to become a regular fixture in Gerard Houllier's plans.

"By the end of the season I will have been here for three years," Vignal told the club's official magazine. "I have talked to the boss and I'm listening to him.

"He has told me not to get down or not to get worried, and to just keep playing my football. That's what I'm going to do.

"He said I had what it takes, otherwise I wouldn't be at Liverpool. Obviously I hope to get another chance soon because you don't stay young all your life. Of course I want to play, as does every player.

"But I'm guarding against rushing things. I trust the staff and what they have had to say.

"The most important thing is to think of the team and to make sure I am ready when called upon."

Vignal has been linked with a possible loan move back to his native France when the transfer window re-opens in a bid to get valuable first-team football like Traore did last season at Lens.

Both Nantes and Lens are believed to keeping their eye on Vignal's situation at Anfield.
