Your just a mercenary - Basler
The Lauterer are second from bottom of Die Bundesliga heading into the winter hiatus, a full eight points from safety, and to make matters worse the club are in debt to the tune of £30 million and under investigation by German tax authorities over some of their transfer dealings.
Basler, no stranger to controversy himself, is furious that 'The Snake' has put the boot in when the club are at its lowest ebb and accused the World Cup winner of being a football mercenary.
"For years Youri earned really big money here and therefore he is partly responsible for the mess we are in right now," raged Basler
"He shouldn't talk like that in public.
"Djorkaeff doesn't give a s**t for the club he plays for, all he cares about is the cheque he gets each month."
It is not the first spat between 'Super Mario' and Djorkaeff with former German international Basler previously claiming that the club were better off without the Gallic ace.
Basler also revealed his delight when the former Internazionale man left for Bolton, initially on loan.
Big wages paid to players such as Taribo West, Djorkaeff, Ciriaco Sforza and Basler have played a major role in the downturn in fortunes of Kaiserslautern, who won the German top-flight back in the 1997/1998 season under the guidance of Otto Rehhagel.
The financial crisis at the club has prompted speculation in the German media that stars such as Miroslav Klose and Hani Ramzy will be sold when the transfer window re-opens in January.
