Celtic close gap at top

CHAMPIONS Celtic closed the gap on Rangers to just one point at the top of the SPL after a 2-0 win over Dundee at Parkhead.

Welsh star John Hartson gave The Bhoys the lead after 38 minutes with an acrobatic scissor kick.

Dundee's Argentine stopper Julian Speroni had punched a corner clear, but the resulting cross was brilliantly converted by Hartson.

The Celtic goal rubbed salt in the wounds of Dundee who should have taken the lead just a minute earlier when they awarded a penalty.

Bobo Balde has tripped Nacho Novo, but Fabien Caballero's weak shot was easily saved by Rab Douglas.

Celtic then sealed the win just after half time when the prolific Henrik Larsson (pictured) converted.

A nice move from Martin O'Neill's side saw Didier Agathe curl the ball into the area and Larsson rose to head past Speroni.

Celtic are now within touching distance of arch-rivals Rangers, who travel to Partick Thistle on Sunday to try and reinstate their four-point gap.

Hearts moved back into third place with a comfortable 3-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice.

Dutch striker Mark de Vries grabbed his tenth of the season when he headed home after 26 minutes,

Northern Ireland international Andy Kirk then sealed the win with two goals either side of half time (41 & 51).

Kilmarmock maintained their place in the top-five with a 2-1 win over Hibernian.

Gary McSwegan had given Kilmarnock the lead after 63 minutes, but Hibs looked to have grabbed a point when Paco Luna headed home with just seven minutes left.

However, midfielder Stevie Fulton smashed home a volley just two minutes from time to give the home side the lead.

The final game of the day saw lowly pair Aberdeen and Livingston play out a goalless draw at Pittodrie.
