Alpay agrees Villa exit
Alpay has been keen to quit Villa Park ever since his exploits in last summer's World Cup, but has stated he would like to continue his career in England.
Leeds United have been linked with the star in the past, however clubs such as Newcastle United and Birmingham are actively searching for defensive reinforcements.
"I have reached an agreement with an English club, but I cannot say the club's name," said Alpay. "Aston Villa know the club's name. I will play for the biggest club in England.
"I'm happy in England. I want to stay there. I have to think of my family's future.
"There were offers from Italy and Spain. I'm really not thinking about moving back to Turkey at the moment."
Contrary to Alpay's claims, Villa have reiterated their stance that no club has made an offer for the wantaway star, and that nothing has changed.
"Graham Taylor made clear we had received no concrete offers for Alpay last week and nothing has changed in that respect," said a spokesman to the club's official website.
"As things stand at the moment, nothing is imminent. The player remains on the transfer-list, but we are no closer to a deal."
Meanwhile, Alpay believes that Blackburn Rovers' new acquisition Hakan Sukur will be a success at Ewood Park, despite suffering an injury upon arriving at the club.
"Hakan Sukur is a very good player," added Alpay. "He will be a success in England, because football in England is very much in the air and he is good with his head."
