Sibon finalises Heerenveen switch

DUTCH target-man Gerald Sibon has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Heerenveen in his homeland.

The beanpole striker leaves Sheffield Wednesday after three-and-a-half seasons in the Steel City and was officially unveiled by De Eredivisie side on Monday afternoon.

Sibon, who has been handed the number 35 shirt at Heerenveen, joined The Owls back in 1999, when the club were still in The Premiership, for £2 million from Ajax.

Wednesday were keen to slash the wage bill with the ITV Digital collapse leaving them in financial turmoil and Sibon, one of the biggest earners at Hillsborough, was offloaded as a result.

Heerenveen, who were in the Champions League not so long ago, have struggled this season and will hope Sibon can help shoot them up De Erediviisie ladder.
