Puyol: Title not beyond Barca

CARLES PUYOL believes Barcelona can still win the Spanish title, despite being 14 points adrift of leaders Real Sociedad.

The Spanish international defender feels a win against title hopefuls Valencia this weekend will lift the whole club.

"The gap is not that big and it is still possible that we can win the league," declared Puyol.

"We have to take each game as it comes and if we can put a run of victories together then you never know where we can end up.

"We are only six points behind Valencia and we are playing them at home and we must win.

"They are not only one of the best teams in Spain, but one of the best in Europe. It will be very tough, but I know we can defeat them.

"But we have to improve offensively. Against Malaga the defence was strong, but we did not create enough chances to win the game."

Injuries are mounting at Camp Nou and the loss of Gerard in the goalless draw with Malaga had added to coach Louis van Gaal's problems.

"The thing that is causing us the greatest concern is the number of injuries we are picking up," added Puyol.

"They are causing us all kinds of selection problems and could affect our results."
