Heldt secures Stuttgart switch

FORMER German international midfielder Horst Heldt has returned to the Bundesliga, after signing for VfB Stuttgart from Sturm Graz.

The 33-year-old impressed VfB coach Felix Magath in a week-long trial at the club's winter training camp in Portugal, and has now been handed a contract at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion until 2004.

Heldt, who won 2 international caps in 1999 and previously played in the Bundesliga for Cologne, Frankfurt and 1860 Munich, expressed his delight at the move.

"It's a dream come true that I will get to play Bundesliga football again," declared the veteran.

"Stuttgart is a club with an exciting future.

"It's the best thing that could have happened to me."

Magath had been looking for a left-sided player to replace Jochen Seitz who will be joining Schalke at the end of the current season.
