Keane favoured for boxing match

OUR call for your suggestions on which footballers you would like to see battle it out in the boxing ring brought a sackful of suggestions - with nominations ranging from funny to downright bizarre.

Planetfootball wanted to know which two players you would most like to see take part in a celebrity boxing match - a phenomenon that has caught the public attention in recent months.

The man on most people's lips - and the man featured in our picture mock-up - was inevitably Roy Keane.

The Manchester United and Ireland captain was easily the most heavily nominated man - but whilst most, including Juhan Rattisukoski, suggested that he would like to see his old footballing feud with Alf Inge Haaland pushed into the ring, others had another idea.

Mohammed Shahzad and 'Kurt' were amongst a plethora of people who would like to see Keane pitted against Mick McCarthy - after the World Cup shenanigans in Korea and Japan.

There were also some suggestions that boxing could be used to settle 'who is better' debates.

JB McLeod and Matt O'Keefe would like to see young guns Wayne Rooney and James Milner battle it out in the ring to decide who will be the biggest hitter in England's bright future.

Sir Alex Ferguson was also a suggestion - with many picking the Knight of the realm to battle it out with Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger.

But Mark Gilmartin would like to see if Fergie's mind games worked quite as well in the ring against Kevin Keegan - after the latter's famous televised outburst whilst manager of Newcastle.

My own personal favourite came from Riza Senik - who said he would like to see two of soccer's legendary hard men go face to face - suggesting that Brian 'Killer' Kilcline and 'Mad' Mick Harford take each other on.
