Forlan delighted with late winner

Forlan came off the bench to smash home the winner in stoppage time to give Sir Alex Ferguson's men a vital three points.

The striker was pleased with his strike, but heaped praise on his South American team-mate Juan Sebastian Veron.

"Sebastian Veron gave me an exact pass into the heart of the area and when I reached the ball I didn't hesitate a second and hit it as hard as I could," said Forlan.

"It was spectacular, scoring in the last minute and that my goal helped to win a very important match, I am really very happy.

"You can imagine, we were all really happy because if we had drawn and Arsenal won on Sunday we would have been seven points behind them."

Ruud van Nistelrooy was the man who was taken off at 1-1 to be replaced by Forlan, although he was the first player to celebrate with his team-mate.

"We have an excellent relationship," explained Forlan. "We always sit together on the bus and we talk a lot. He is one of the players with which I have a big relationship with, as I also have with Veron."

Asked if this goal against Chelsea was the most important one in his career, Forlan replied: "I scored many important goals with Independiente, the one I scored in the World Cup for Uruguay was also important, but yes, this one is one of the most important ones because it was a very important moment for the team."
