Steaua block Radoi move

STEAUA BUCHAREST coach Victor Piturca is blocking bids from Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers for talented defender Mirel Radoi.

The North West Premiership duo have targeted the 21-year-old during the transfer window, but are likely to be stalled until the summer as Piturca is desperate to retain the services of the classy Romanian.

Although English reports have suggest Bolton lead the chase for the player, it is understood that Manchester City are favourites to snap him up, after agreeing terms on a ‚é¼3.5 million deal.

However, Kevin Keegan wanted to take the player on a week's trial before commiting to such an outlay, and Piturca is not happy with the situation.

"Mirel Radoi is a vital player for me and for Steaua, of course," he stated.

"At this moment, we haven't got another player to replace him, and Steaua must work hard after the winter break to win many points in the championship, if we want to play next season in the Uefa Cup.

"I know that Mirel is one of the most desired players by some big clubs in Europe, and I have nothing to say against a move in the summer.

"It could be in The Premiership, in Italy or in another big club, it doesn't matter.

"He deserves this as he is able to play anywhere because he has great potential and qualities for his position in the centre of defence.

"In the summer, we can open talks as it will be a different situation, and it's important also that the club will get a lot of money from his transfer as this is very good for us."
