Houllier: Xavier will not go out on loan

GERARD HOULLIER has admitted that he will allow defender Abel Xavier to leave Liverpool, but not on loan.

The Reds confirmed that Turkish giants Galatasaray had registered their interest in the Portuguese international, but Houllier insists Xavier will only leave on a permanent basis.

"A few agents have been in touch with me but I won't let him go out on loan. No way," declared Houllier

"If he wants to go, he goes but it has to be a transfer. I can understand his situation because he isn't getting regular football at the moment."

With Jamie Carragher, Markus Babbel and the emerging Jon Otsemobor Liverpool look well covered at right back leaving the door open for Xavier to leave.

The £800,000 signing from Everton has failed to set Anfield alight since his move across Merseyside and Liverpool are likely to accept around £1 million for the man with the outrageous hair.
