Broto set for Celtic switch

LIVINGSTON goalkeeper Javier Sanchez Broto could be on his way to join Scottish champions Celtic.

Broto has been a regular in the Livi net since his arrival in 2001 and helped them gain promotion to the SPL and their incredible march into Europe last season.

The 31-year-old is reportedly on his way to Glasgow for a medical and could even be Martin O'Neill's first signing since he agreed on a new contract.

Former Malaga man Broto's contract expires at the end of the season and the Almondvale side will be looking to reduce their wage bill by letting him go.

Broto would be unlikely to figure at Parkhead however, and he would be used as cover for Rab Douglas and Magnus Hedman as they battle it out for the number one spot.

Meanwhile, Livingston have been told by the SFA that they were wrong to sack Argentinian Sergio Berti after he spat at team-mate Richard Brittain.

The West Lothian outfit terminated his contract immediately after the incident before he had even figured in a competitive match.

However, after an appeal from the player known as 'the Witch', the SFA have now said that the club were wrong to sack him.

"The decision was that the appeal be upheld - the appeal fee will be returned and the association will bear the cost of the appeal," said Sandy Bryson, head of registrations at the SFA.

"The decision of the committee is final so that means the player is re-instated, although he was effectively still a Livingston player throughout this anyway.

"Basically, the club's decision to terminate the player's contract has been overturned."
