Hendon leaves Owls

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY defender Ian Hendon has had his contract with the club terminated by mutual consent.

The 31-year-old stopper has fallen out of the first team picture at Hillsborough and has spent the last month on loan at Nationwide Conference side Barnet.

Hendon's current deal with The Owls is set to expire in the summer but he has agreed with the club that he is better leaving now to go in search of football elsewhere.

Chris Turner's side are deep in financial trouble and would be unable to offer him a new deal that is anything like his current contract.

The former Northampton and Notts County man has played five times for Barnet but is looking for league football and is not contemplating signing on at Underhill.

Meanwhile, Wednesday goalkeeper Paul Evans could be out of action for a month with a knee injury.

The South African shot-stopper was forced off during the reserve game against Aston Villa on Wednesday night after he jarred his knee, and had to be replaced by Chris Stringer.
