Les Canaris issue Andre threat

FRENCH side Nantes have warned Bolton Wanderers they will not be messed around over the proposed transfer of striker Pierre-Yves Andre to the Reebok Stadium.

Bolton's need for a new front man has intensified since the club accepted Michael Ricketts' transfer request, and Andre arrived in Lancashire for a trial earlier in the week, but has since returned to France.

The 28-year-old Frenchman has only started six times this term at Nantes, but Les Canaris president, Jean-Luc Gripond, insists the player is still an important part of his club's squad.

He added that any deal for Andre would have to happen soon, or Nantes would turn their back on negotiations.

"The English clubs are the only buyers on the European market and as a consequence they might try to use their position to make us and the player wait," Gripond said.

"But even if we are open to a loan deal, we are not happy to sell or lend in a rush.

"We are going to push them (Bolton) a little bit by the end of the week."

Gripond also warned Sam Allardyce that Andre would not be returning to Bolton for another trial, insisting the player's standing in the French game merited more respect.

"It has also been agreed with Pierre-Yves that he would not go back to England on trial again," he added.

"He is not going to go round the whole country, this is not the way to treat a good player."
