Rebrov: Hoddle broke my heart

The Ukrainian ace was an £11 million signing from Dinamo Kiev by Hoddle's predecessor George Graham in the summer of 2000.

But since Hoddle replaced Graham at the White Hart Lane helm in the spring of 2001, Rebrov has been little more than a bit-part figure for the club.

He has not even featured this season and is on the cusp of bringing the curtain down on his inglorious stay in North London with a move to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce.

As he jetted out to Istanbul, Rebrov fired a parting shot at Spurs boss Hoddle, accusing him of wrecking his prospects of making an impact in The Premiership.

"Glenn Hoddle broke my heart and my career," Rebrov told the News of the World. "I am 100 percent sure that if he had never come to Spurs I would have become a big star here. From the moment he arrived everything changed for me.

"I can't air all the feelings I have about Hoddle because as a 100 percent professional footballer I have to do what the manager asks.

"I can accept the fact that he didn't think I could fit in to his team. But why did he take so long to tell me?

"Tottenham would have got a much bigger transfer fee 18 months ago. Maybe five, six or seven million.

"I made a good start for Spurs with 12 goals in my first season and I'm certain a big team would have come in if I had been made available then.

"I realised there was no future for me at Tottenham. But I still tried my best, even for the reserves."
