Chelsea sink gutsy Leeds
The Blues had flattered to deceive at times, and Gudjohnsen's acrobatic genius was sandwiched by Leeds goals from Harry Kewell, and Teddy Lucic - who poked home a corner to restore his side's advantage.
But as the game entered the final ten minutes Frank Lampard proved how much of an influential player he has become at Stamford Bridge by grabbing an equaliser, and then forcing an own goal winner from Dominic Matteo
The former West Ham man fired home after the ball arrived kindly in the box, to tie the game at 2-2 and then found his good run and pull back rewarded with a huge slice of fortune when Matteo diverted into his own net with six minutes remaining.
Chelsea played some lovely football throughout the opening period - but found themselves behind to a lightning break.
Although Leeds' goal cannot be considered pretty by any means, when Mark Viduka flicked on a Paul Robinson clearance, Kewell did brilliantly to control on his chest and poke the ball past Carlo Cudicini on the volley.
Chelsea should have quickly been level, but after Eidur Gudjohnsen had scrambled the ball back to Jody Morris, following a fine shot from the impressive Graeme Le Saux, the midfielder contrived to thump the ball wide with the goal gaping.
Chelsea - in truth - deserved the points from the game, but will feel they have got our of jail against a gutsy Leeds side, that battled on throughout.
